The Company was created from four separate companies – Auction Inc., Rotman Auction, Inc., World Wide Collectors Digest, Inc., and the wholesale and retail collectibles business owned and operated by the Rotman family. The Rotman collectibles business was founded by Steve and Leslie Rotman, the parents of Richard Rotman and Gregory Rotman, officers of the Company. The Rotmans have engaged in the business of buying, warehousing, distributing, marketing and selling collectibles and other memorabilia–particularly sports related memorabilia–to dealers, collectors, and consumers, since 1977. Rotman Collectibles expanded into auction formats in 1991. Richard Rotman put the auctions on the Internet in 1996, hosted on the storefront Website of World Wide Collectors Digest, Inc. Then in 1997, Richard established Rotman Auction, Inc., to solely focus on sports memorabilia auctions.

The Rotmans saw an opportunity to bring these businesses together to service the collectibles industry online through the Internet. In February of 1999 the companies were reverse merged into the Public Company SRAD, which then changed its name to Sales Online Direct, Inc. With this new public platform Sales Online Direct has begun its mission to be a company dedicated to the management, development and retailing of affinity channels covering all forms of media, bandwidths and devices. RotmanAuction.com, CollectingExchange.com are the foundation of those channels.

Most recently Sales Online Direct (OTC BB: PAID) acquired CollectingChannel.com, which was the centerpiece of ChannelSpace Entertainment, Inc., to further advance the corporate charter of becoming the dominant affinity portal for collecting in the industry. Merging Rotman Auction, CollectingExchange and the CollectingChannel into one entity will certainly attain that dominance.

CollectingChannel.com is quickly capturing the lion’s share of the $120 billion worldwide collecting industry through its convergence of voice, video and comprehensive data library into an online entertainment and information “mega-mall”. “CollectingChannel.com is like the CNN or Bloomberg of collecting,” said Greg Rotman CEO of Sales Online Direct. “They are out there every day, capturing the stories that make collecting come to life. Adding their interactive website to the Sales Online Direct family is helping us build an entertainment and information collecting “empire” based on giving people the information they need in ways that make it fun to participate.” The site encompasses television, radio, video webcasting, merchandising and a host of personalized collecting services such as auctions, chats, articles and expert opinions written by industry professionals, as well as CollectingChannel’s own staff of writers who research and write original stories and expert opinions on topics such as antiques, sports, stamps and coins for the collecting industry. Up-to-the-minute news articles and audio/video programming are then broadcast using both narrow and broadband streaming technology. CollectingChannel.com also produced the successful and exciting TV Series, “Treasures In Your Home: The World of CollectingTM”, which was the first nightly prime access TV series to be interactively simulcast in both narrow and broadband through a partnership between collectingchannel and Yahoo Broadcast Services.

By Anna Griffin, The Oregonian
May perhaps 04, 2010, 6:03PM

University college students experiment. They adjust hairstyles, majors, even sexual orientations. And at Reed University, as on most campuses, some experiment with illegal drug treatments.

That’s the way it is often been. Smart children do dumb elements to support determine who they’re.

That is why some college students and alumni in the prestigious Southeast Portland school had been taken aback last month when local prosecutors demanded that Reed adopt a “zero tolerance” tactic to illegal medicines or possibility losing federal funding.

Within the eve of Renn Fayre, the end-of-year celebration, Multnomah County District Lawyer Mike Schrunk and U.S. Lawyer Dwight Holton reminded Reedies that two of their personal died lately from heroin overdoses.

“There continues to be this two-tiered medication policy at Reed, with several standards for distinct medications,” Holton mentioned. “The result can be an unofficial legitimizing of all medication use.”

Here’s the underlying truth: Nobody thinks drug treatments will disappear from campus. They’d just such as exceedingly intelligent men and women at Reed — each college students and administrators — to accomplish what a Reed education teaches: contemplate just about every angle and pick wisely.

University guides be aware the quick access Reed college students appreciate to marijuana and hallucinogens. Controlled mayhem will be the name from the geeky game at Renn Fayre. Even the faculty handbook’s section on prescription drugs begins on a grudging be aware: “Drug and alcohol use is really a complex and controversial topic. Quite a few would argue that public policy on medication and alcohol use have been counterproductive, discouraging rational analysis of substance use, abuse and addiction…”

Student leaders say the degree of campus abuse has become overblown by Reed’s countercultural rep and openness about medicines. “We’ve been portrayed as spoiled or out of manage,” mentioned Celia Hassan, Reed’s student physique president. “The truth is that individuals below function incredibly difficult and earn a fantastic deal of autonomy.”

I’m with Hassan about the broader point. If everybody on campus is really a stoner, why do countless Reed graduates do numerous excellent points?

However I also get exactly where prosecutors are coming from. Heroin is back. The folks who fight crime are desperate to stay clear of a meth-like epidemic of overdoses and violence.

Reed college students, normally a lot more affluent and open to experimentation, are an appealing marketplace for sellers. Administrators and pupils draw intellectual distinctions concerning marijuana and a lot more considerable narcotics — “Heroin isn’t condoned the following, not whatsoever,” Hassan claimed. But prosecutors properly be aware that 1 can lead to a different, especially when the door is currently open to sellers.

“If this ended up just a bunch of individuals smoking pot, we wouldn’t be getting this conversation,” Holton explained. “At identical time, an illegal medication is surely an illegal medication. That message has to get clear and unambiguous.”

Nevertheless this predicament is undeniably ambiguous, just like the broader “war on medications.” Police do not have the time to arrest every single Reedie having a joint. Administrators and alums rightly cherish Reed’s reputation for intellectual exploration. Nobody wants an surroundings where college students who will need guide are as well worried about legal consequences to look for it.

The buttoned-down prosecutor along with the student leader which includes a stud in her nose equally circle close to towards identical simple answer: honest conversations in between the card-carrying adults and also the pupils who desire to be treated that way.

“Simply saying, ‘Don’t do prescription drugs,’ isn’t likely to do the job with our student physique,” Hassan stated. “You require to take a far more intellectual method.”

“Discourse is probably the most successful path to alter at Reed,” Holton claimed. “In a sense, the letter was a way to obtain everyone’s attention.”

– Anna Griffin

School cafeterias are such as the hotels with the school globe. But rather than bathroom towels, college students acquire residence plates, bowls, cups and silverware.

Using the college year or so ending, it really is time for dish amnesty. Local colleges and universities wish to reclaim some from the loot college students “borrowed” while in the college yr.

St. John’s College, the School of St. Benedict and St. Cloud Talk about College put out boxes in residential halls and sent reminders to college students, asking them to return dishes from dining products and services. Maintenance workers also discover abandoned dishes in residence halls immediately after pupils verify out.

“People borrow them for awhile,” says Dave Schoenberg, St. John’s dining service director. “What are you going to complete with these issues when mom and dad arrive to pack you up?”

Both St. John’s and St. Cloud Express serve additional than 1 million meals per college yr, mentioned Schoenberg and Tim Ness, operations manager at Garvey Commons, St. Cloud Express.

It is not uncommon to shed some dishes and utensils, Schoenberg and Ness stated.

“It’s not a massive difficulty, Schoenberg stated. “But it really is rather prevalent. It is some thing which has gone on forever.”

A lot more college students are eating on campus at St. Cloud Express College. About 2,600 pupils are on standard plans, as well as a lot more are on commuter meal plans, Ness says.

St. Cloud Point out loses about 10 percent of its dishware per yr, Ness mentioned. The college tries to recover some dishes to manage charges, he stated.

it is OK to acquire dishes into their residence halls, he explained.

Schoenberg sees a similar element. Salt shakers are especially favorite, he stated. College students like to generate popcorn in their rooms, he explained. Other well-known products are cereal bowls and plates, he explained.

He won’t know just how much dishware is missing till dining products and services conducts an inventory this June, he stated.

If only a portion with the dishes are recovered, it truly is a great commence, Ness and Schoenberg explained.

“At least we’re generating the work,” Ness mentioned. “It keeps the truthful persons sincere.”

Perhaps it turns some former college students a small as well truthful. A couple several years ago, Schoenberg received a package from a St. John’s graduate with dishware he had taken in the course of his university several years. He wrote a letter saying he wanted to perform the perfect issue.

Schoenberg laughs.

“If we get them back, it truly is not that huge of the deal,” he says. “It is their location for four many years.”

Answers About Undergraduate Financial products: Component 2
By THE NEW YORK Situations
Ask an Professional – Your Income – Bucks Blog – NYTimes.com
Laren Asher, professional on college student financial loans and fiscal assistance, is answering reader queries. Lauren Asher, professional on university student financial loans and personal help, is answering reader inquiries.

“Ask an Expert” is often a recurring function on Bucks in which you could have the chance to issue big-brained people about a specific location of individual finance or client affairs.

This week, we’re turning our attention to undergraduate financial products. President Obama lately signed legislation that would increase higher education accessibility for millions, by overhauling the federal college student loan software.

Beneath the new law, exclusive banks will no longer obtain federal subsidies to produce university student financial loans. Instead, the government will offer the borrowing products directly — a lot from the savings are going to be redirected to increase Pell grants and to generate it much easier for graduates to pay back their debts.

Numerous students and their dad and mom are likely wondering what this suggests for them. Meanwhile, students who’re at the moment enrolled in institution — and whose finances have worsened because the recession — may possibly have inquiries about their possibilities. Ditto for current graduates who’re out of function and saddled with scholar credit card debt.

Lauren Asher, this week’s specialist, is right here to response your inquiries. Ms. Asher is president on the Institute for University Accessibility and Achievement, a nonprofit organization that aims to create increased education much more accessible and cost-effective by means of its exploration and advocacy efforts. The institute is household towards the Project on University student Credit card debt, which Ms. Asher co-founded in 2005.

She answered the 1st round of queries earlier this week, and her second installment may be observed beneath. If you’ve a concern, please leave it inside the comment section with the original post.
Q.

My son will likely be attending N.Y.U. Dentistry this fall — to graduate in 2014. Is he eligible for just about any financial products underneath the American undergraduate loan software? His grandmother and some other household members reside inside United States but his father doesn’t have American citizenship.

– XYZ, Vancouver, Canada
A.

Federal undergraduate financial loans and grants are accessible to American people, permanent residents and some eligible noncitizens. If your son fits a single of these categories, he really should fill out the Totally free Application for Federal Undergraduate Support, or Fafsa, as soon as feasible. Regardless of whether or not his mother and father are American people won’t impact his eligibility.

If your son isn’t eligible for federal assistance since of his citizenship status, he really should even now check with with N.Y.U.’s monetary help workplace to check out if other support is obtainable, like scholarships that aren’t restricted to American people.

And if he’s contemplating exclusive college student financial products, it is critical to understand that they’re not a form of college student help, but rather a risky and high priced source of credit rating. Exclusive financial loans generally have variable rates which will rise without having warning, like a credit score card. They lack the crucial settlement possibilities and buyer protections of federal undergraduate borrowing products and are just about impossible to discharge in bankruptcy. They also normally need a creditworthy co-signer who’ll be liable in the event the college student can not pay back, even when the undergraduate dies.
Q.

I’m a particular mom and use a university student beginning higher education this fall. I dropped my career in 2009 and am at present unemployed and living on my savings, 401(k) and stocks. We did not qualify for just about any monetary guide as a result of my salary degree (adding severance plus a 401(k) loan that was converted to profit when I dropped my task in 2009). Do we have any recourse to this choice? – J, Kansas
A.

Please talk on the economic help workplace at your daughter’s school perfect away about your position, and make clear how your 2009 taxes do not reflect your latest conditions. It could transform her eligibility for federal and institution grants too as federal undergraduate financial products.

Schools do have some flexibility to revise monetary assistance awards in these sorts of situations – it is named “professional judgment” in economic assistance lingo — and also the federal Department of Education has encouraged colleges to become responsive in the course of these tough instances.
Q.

My husband has no university student lending products, and We have a massive one particular. When we got betrothed a couple of many years ago, I was told that my then-current income-contingent pay back prepare would now be according to equally my husband’s and my very own earnings. He makes the identical quantity that I do. By individuals calculations, I would have had to pay out 3 situations what I did as just one particular person. I ended up getting to opt for that extended settlement which was (only?) a small more than twice what I had been paying as a particular. I quite a great deal practically couldn’t afford to marry. Needless to say, it has been a main monetary burden as I tend not to let my husband aid me using the payments—it just isn’t his responsibility. That emotional burden in marriage could well be as well a great deal. My concern is that We’ve noticed that there might be an choice now for betrothed couples in which the income-based payment is depending on the person spouse’s earnings. I can discover answers that say it’s accurate for assessing income-based wants when each spouses have borrowing products but I can not get an explicit solution in regards to the predicament for when a person husband or wife has scholar loan credit card debt along with the other doesn’t.

–Michelle, Northern New Jersey
A.

It is genuine that when you are hitched and file your taxes jointly, your lender will use your joint profit as the basis for calculating your income-based pay back (I.B.R.) payment. Your only way close to this can be to file your taxes separately. You will find some essential trade-offs, so discuss with a tax adviser to view if you’d actually be much better off.

You might have observed about a switch going into impact on July 1, which will support betrothed borrowers who each have federal college student borrowing products and file jointly. It’ll eradicate unfairly higher I.B.R. payments by recognizing that the couple’s joint salary is getting applied to pay out down two debts. However it won’t alter the selections for persons with your scenario, exactly where just a person wife or husband has financial loans.

The PC Pro Schools, who’ve the initial select in up coming month’s draft, are now doing work to employ achievable No. 1 choose Bryce Harper’s university coach being a scout, SI.com has learned.

The anticipated hiring of well-regarded Institution of Southern Nevada coach Tim Chambers are going to be viewed my several to be a sign the Nats do really program to decide on Harper, the 17-year-old slugging prodigy, while using the major general go with. And possibly it truly is. But PC Pro Schools assistant GM Roy Clark mentioned the hiring is unrelated, pointing out he previously applied Chambers to get a decade when Clark was with all the Braves. Clark says, “I promise you, I by no means heard of Harper when I hired (Chambers) 10 many years back.”

Clark stated that hundreds of higher education coaches are applied by major-league teams as “associate scouts” without any expectation of their players currently being drafted. Clark applied dozens of associate scouts whilst while using the Braves and is functioning on setting up a comparable plan in Washington, with every single expectation that Chambers will move with him.

“We’re inside the practice of operating on it,” Clark says. “Officially, he’s not beneath contract.”

Although quite a few will assume that Chambers’ hiring is often a precursor towards the selection of Harper, and possibly it can be (most baseball individuals seem to assume the Nats to acquire Harper), it is also doable Chambers amazed people on the Nats organization in the course of their frequent jaunts to Nevada to scout the heralded Harper. Underneath Chambers, Harper has created superbly, hitting 21 property runs as simply the youngest player in the uncommon institution wooden bat league.

Chambers, who has won six championships in nine decades at the university and has had scores of his players drafted, says he’s been “bird-dogging” for the decade for Clark, a prominent scouting executive who worked for your Braves till moving to Washington final yr, and plans to move with him. Chambers mentioned that although he’ll be known as an associate scout, he advised the smaller role is truly pretty informal, since it was previously while using Braves. “I’ve been a bird dog for most of my career,” Chambers says.

PC Pro Schools persons aren’t committing to who they’ll take on No. 1 which has a month to go — Nats president Stan Kasten mentioned via text message on Monday that it absolutely was “too early” to say — but folks close to baseball see Harper as the preferred. A 365 days back, he landed about the cover of Sports Illustrated for his extraordinary slugging exploits. He is usually a catcher having a powerful arm plus a pitcher at the same time, but some view him to be a third baseman or correct fielder being a pro.

Chambers isn’t component from the Nats’ decision-making course of action beyond providing his personal opinion of Harper but when asked if he expects the group to acquire his player No. 1, he stated, “I do.” Chambers explained he’s been incredibly amazed by how Harper’s handled his 12 months inside the limelight. “It’s very unbelievable that somebody that young can have all that spotlight and pressure on him, and execute like he has.”

Chambers mentioned he has recognized the Harper loved ones for 15 several years, and his hiring can not hurt the Nats’ efforts to sign Harper if they do in fact select him. Though, it won’t necessarily guide them, either. Chambers is believed to become close to both Harper brothers. Bryce’s older brother Bryan is definitely an exceptional left-handed pitcher for that School of Southern Nevada.

A Nats particular person stated they happen to be thinking about about 3 several best prospects, which includes right-handed pitcher Jameson Taillon on the Woodlands Increased University outside Houston. Others below consideration could consist of Drew Pomeranz, a lefty pitcher through the University of Mississippi, large college pitcher A.J. Cole and Karsten Whitson, prep shortstop Manny Machado, and LSU righty Anthony Ranaudo.

The Nats also had the No. 1 select final twelve months, which they employed to draft higher education pitcher Stephen Strasburg, ultimately signing him to a report $15.67-million contract soon after picking out him final yr. SI.com reported Monday that Harper is anticipated to look for to break that report.

PC Pro Schools common manager Mike Rizzo reportedly went to determine Harper this week. Reports have recommended that Rizzo has no concern with Harper’s personality, which was lately referred to as cocky in a single write-up. And Chambers staunchly defended Harper, saying he is usually a usual 17-year-old with extraordinary talent who drives a Toyota with 100,000 miles on it to practice and goes to church with his middle class spouse and children on Sundays. He also says he not too long ago has allowed much more media people to meet and interview Harper and combat what he described like a false accusation concerning the kid by an anonymous adult or two.

Chambers advised a couple early on-field incidents had been overblown since of who Harper is. In a single, based on Chambers, Harper was becoming subjected to taunting when he retaliated by pointing to his helmet immediately after hitting two dwelling runs against a rival group. Chambers says one more incident was misconstrued. In that 1, Harper was ejected for getting a bow soon after a especially sturdy throw from proper area to just about gun out a baserunner who had singled, and that Harper only kiddingly took a half-bow in response to oohs and ahhs from his individual dugout.

“I cannot imagine how a lot heat is on him,” Chambers stated.

Parents of higher education college students begin to be concerned in regards to the protection of their youngsters, and college officials promise to appear anew at their threat assessment capabilities.

These days all eyes are on UVA, in which the attorney for George Huguely, the student charged with first-degree murder from the death of Yeardley Adore, 22, told reporters how the lacrosse player’s death was an accident and how the 22-year-old Huguely, also a lacrosse player, had not meant to end her existence.

It is fair to say that U.S. colleges and universities are harmless, provided how the country has the highest murder rate among the planet’s wealthy nations.

You can find greater than 17 million college students attending four,200 colleges and universities within the United States, and, in accordance with a brand new federal government statement on campus crime, which I wrote about yesterday, there have been 174 murders and non-negligent manslaughter conditions documented from 2005 to 2008, together with 46 negligent manslaughter conditions. Inside the 1st category, there ended up 28 in 2005, 25 in 2006, 66 in 2007 and 55 in 2008; inside second category there ended up 33 in 2005, none in 2006, 8 in 2007 and 5 in 2008.

That explained, all universities aren’t the identical with regards to safety.

The Department of Education includes a Web internet site exactly where you are able to put inside the name of your college and see every one of the crimes that institutions record annually for the authorities. Colleges happen to be needed for two decades to present information on specific crimes under the Clery Law, named right after a freshman who was raped and murdered at Lehigh College, which, it was discovered, hadn’t told college students about 38 violent crimes on campus inside 3 many years prior to her slaying.

Recall that numerous universities are actually criticized for underreporting crimes, but you are able to get some concept using the Campus Protection Information Analysis Cutting Tool.

A couple of organizations have looked at various sets of info and really ranked university security. As an example, immediately after the murder of an doctoral student at Yale Higher education last 12 months, the Day-to-day Beast analyzed files from four,000 educational institutions and looked at in excess of 50 distinct criteria, then judged the universities on a per-capita basis.

In accordance towards Regular Beast, the least risk-free were being Emerson Institution in Boston (which it mentioned had virtually no on-campus crime, but a great deal correct outside), Chicago’s Saint Xavier, The College of Maryland at Baltimore, Tufts Collage in Massachusetts along with the Massachusetts Institute of Technological innovation.

The safest colleges in this ranking were being the New York Institute of Technological know-how, Farmingdale Talk about College or university in New York, Grand Valley Think Higher education in Michigan, Indiana Wesleyan College or university, and Idaho Express Higher education.

For that record, listed here are the statistics how the College or university of Virginia documented for the federal authorities.

State’s cyber schools would help Pennsylvania 124 bricks-and-mortar charter schools into Charter School Digital Learning Network said Dr. Nick Trombetta.

In the School Leadership Conference sponsored by the Pennsylvania Coalition of Public Charter Schools Dr. Trombetta made a proposal to start digital learning program in the schools. The meeting had witnessed around 200 charter and cyber charter school board members, administrators and teachers from across the state attended a three-day meeting concluding May 2 at the Marriott Hotel and Convention Center in Lancaster.

Earlier school districts fought cyber education are now changing the trend and creating their own online programs, said Dr. Trombetta, CEO and founder of the 9,000-student Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School.

Predicting an era of rapid technological and educational change with online education becoming commonplace, Dr. Trombetta told the conference, “When a student comes to an administrator and says, ‘I want to learn Mandarin Chinese,’ the answer can’t be ‘no.’ The answer can’t be, ‘that’s something we don’t do.’”

He emphasized on the quality online programs to maintain the competitive edge. And he also said that the small size and budgets were the requirements to make the program more flexible and inexpensive.

The National Network of Digital Schools (NNDS), have already developed an online curriculum prototype that helps around 200 schools in 12 states in interactive curriculum. Trombetta showed attendees some of the Lincoln Interactive courses and a sample digital charter school website

The model, using Lincoln Interactive’s premium curriculum of 250 state-approved online courses, is designed to be flexible, inexpensive and easily customized to any school.

“Not one of them was interested then and some of them laughed at the idea. They’re not laughing now. Schools across the state are scrambling to create their own cyber programs. Soon every school will be a cyber school,” Dr. Trombetta said.

“In Pennsylvania we lead the nation in cyber charter education, and I’m proud of that. But with that status come a responsibility to show the nation what comes next.”
